Dawson started piano lessons one month ago and he is so excited about it! He has expressed interest in the piano for about 6 months. I was hesitant to sign him up because Dallon didn't start lessons until 3rd grade, and I wondered if it would be harder starting Dawson a year younger. But he is doing so great. He loves to practice and is so proud of the songs he can play. He can practice all on his own and needs little help after his lessons. Which is so nice for me. His favorite song so far is Mary Had A Little Lamb. And I think he does an awesome job at Jolly Old Saint Nicholas.

I had a piano tuner come to our home this week to tune the piano. We had an ivory come off of one of the keys a lot more ivory's are lifting. Also, a couple keys have been sticking and not playing well. The piano tuner was able to glue the ivory back on and taught me how to do it when more start to lift off. He also was able to fix the couple keys that were sticking when you'd play them. It's all fixed up and in perfect tune too. I am so excited about that. While the piano tuner was at my home I found out just how old our piano really is. I knew it was old. I knew it originally belonged to my great grandmother, Elizabeth Lindsay. Then it was handed down to my grandma, Vilate Lindsay Wall, then my mother, Shirla Wall, and then to me. So, it's been in our family for 4 generations. So how old is it, you ask? It was made on September 24, 1895. So, it's 115 years old. So happy birthday piano! We love you.

I've always cherished this piano! It is a treasure to me because it belonged to my mom... because she loved it, and because she spent so much of her time playing it. She was a voice teacher and she sat at this piano for hours a day playing it while she taught voice lessons to her students. Each day when I would come home from school there were lessons being taught. I took lessons from her too. We sang around this piano together often. There was always music in our home. I grew up with that sound being a constant. To this day I can't stand for my home to be quiet. I love to hear the sound of music in my home. It makes me feel like I am at home... at my childhood home. It makes me feel closer to my mom. Like a part of her is still here with me. She loved music. She was very talented too. She had a beautiful voice. And I loved to listen to her play the piano.
And I'll finish up this post with a little about Dallon. He has been taking piano lessons for 3 years now. I love for him to play the piano. I love to listen to him. I love that he has blessed our home with music for the past few years. He was starting to lose interest a little... but his teacher has saved the day. She went and got him lots of new music. Now he is playing music from some of the movies he loves like... Harry Potter, Star Wars, etc.

Wow, I can't believe that. I've got to call my dad to figure out the Lindsay relation we have. That is so incredible to me. I loved taking voice from your mom at that piano. I'm so glad you have it and your boys are playing it. Are you still singing?

I think that piano is so pretty! I have lots of great memories of your mom w/ the piano too. I loved hearing her sing! One of my favorite memories is when your mom, Jenna and I called my dad and sang "I'll be right here waiting for you" While I was waiting for him to pick me up, when they were first dating. Oh the memories... sometimes I miss old times ;)
oh my heck jaimie that totally takes me back to singing lessons in your mom's basement! I can just picture the way it sounded when the rings on her fingers (lots of rings!!) would hit the keys when she played the....I loved that so much!
Stef, I was thinking the same thing, her rings and her nails on the keys. Man she was the best. Miss her lots.
