First day of school favorite outfits. Yes, they are the same colors and they look like twins. And no, it wasn't planned.

Aaron drove Dallon on his first day of middle school. We had planned for him to ride the bus. But he was very nervous and expressed that he wanted someone to take him and help him find his first class. I thought it was sweet that he still wanted a parent to walk him in.

I walked Dawson to school that morning. We held hands the whole way. I loved it. I told him how amazing he is on our walk and he just lit up. We took a picture in front of the school sign like we do every year. He was excited and nervous about the first day of school. He is happy about the teacher he got... he heard she really likes boys.

The night before the first day of school we spent getting the boys prepared. They bathed and set out their clothes for the first day. Set out their backpacks and things they needed to take with them. They both received a fathers blessing to comfort them. And then we gave them both a pep talk about being good students and trying their best. I talked to them about making friends. (I knew Dawson didn't have any of his friends in his 2nd grade class this year, and Dallon going into middle school would need to make lots of new friends also). I was talking to them about how important it is to choose good friends. Make friends with people who are kind to others, and make good choices. Friends who are good examples. To avoid those who may use bad language, talk about things we know are inappropriate, are disrespectful to their teachers, or do things that we know are not right, etc. (Really the friend pep talk was more directed to Dallon because I'm scared out of my mind to send him to middle school... but it was Dawson who responded). Dawson said... "Mom, I've seen friends in the cafeteria who are chewing with their mouth open... and that's bad right?"

Derrick is going to Jr. High this year (our 6th is still elementary) and so we can definitely identify with the concern about sending them there and with having good friends.
Haha, Dawson is so funny and sweet. You guys are such awesome parents. I am so scared of the day our kids go to middle and high school. Good thing we still have a long time, but I'm sure it will fly by. They both look so handsome for their first day!
If Dawson can even avoid the open mouth chewers he will have the BEST friends! Love it! And I love their short hair!!! Makes them look so fresh and clean!
I loved the part of chewing with their mouths open, HOW FUNNY!! I started laughing and the boys had to come and see why. But seriously, I wonder how kids can possibly know the difference between the stuff we'd just rather have them not do, and things that we really don't want them to do. Michael's going to Middle School, too, but he feels better about it now that we practiced walking to all of his classes and opening his locker. School starts tomorrow for us and I'll be all alone all day except for Alex. Call me tomorrow if you want to hear what I sound like when I cry.
The boys do look like twins! I can't beleive they are as old as they are!
It is funny that they both picked the same outfits. They are both so handsome. How exciting for Dallon to be in middle school now. Can't believe how fast these kids are growing up. Dawson comments always crack me up - he comes up with some good ones:) Love to you all
