my most expensive load of laundry...

When the washing machine stopped I went to move the clothes over to the dryer and on my second handful of clothing I felt a hunk of metal. I was scared to even look and see what was there. It was Dallon's ipod nano. The headphones still attached and tangled up in the laundry. It was ruined of course. I felt so sad to tell Dallon. He was devastated. He cried. He bought it last January with his own money. He bought a used one for $130. Alot of money for an 8 year old. It is one of his very favorite things he owns. It was in his sweatshirt pocket. He had worn that sweatshirt for several days in stephenville last week. I had seen it downstairs and thought it was dirty so I had grabbed it and threw it in the wash. I remember doing it. I never even thought to check the pockets. So it's my fault. I just felt terrible. I thought about it all night tonight... what do I need to do to make this right? Did I need to replace it? How would I earn the money? Then I realized I could give him mine. So that's what I did. I told him I was giving him mine... he teared up. He told me he didn't want me to do that. He didn't expect it at all and was hesitant about accepting it. It was really very sweet and made me all the happier to do it. Anyway... that's my most expensive load of laundry I've ever done. What is yours?

Oh sad. That was so nice of you, Jaim. I don't know if I've ever lost anything that pricey to the washing machine. Who knows, it will probably happen when we have more kids. I LOVE your new blog! It looks so awesome! Great job!

Oh Jaimie, that just absolutely broke my heart. I am sitting here with tears running down my face. I hope Dallon knows how awesome his mother is. I think the worst washing machine incident I have ever had was leaving a pen in my uniform pocket and ruining a couple of my uniforms.

I thought maybe I had done that to Tyler's ipod once, but it turned out I hadn't washed what jeans he had put it in. I'm so sorry that happened. You are such a good mom to give him yours. We once had crayons left in our church shirt and it ruined quite a few clothes, but we did get it out of most of them.

you have such a sweet boy on your hands. it's probably because he has such a sweet mommy. my most expensive load of laundry wasn't actually because of the $ ammount. derek was being nice and did the laundry (we'd been married a couple of months). he didn't know, but a sweater of mine was at the bottom of the hamper and it was dry clean only. ya, when i got it out of the dryer it was a size 2T!! it was my favorite sweater, but i forgave him...it wouldn't fit me now anyway! ha ha

What a good mom. I'm sure he'll remember that forever. It makes it all the more worthwhile when a child appreciates it, too. I washed my phone once. That would be my most expensive load.

I just loved reading that. What a hard thing to learn.
Our laundry fiasco was also a crayon, like Camille's. We were using the laundromat in Payson, AZ and the dryer held about 3 wash loads at a time. Soooo....we ruined about 3 loads of clothing. It was very sad for a struggling little family of 3!
