Dallon's pinewood derby car. (above) the front. (below) the back!
This is Dallon's pinewood derby car. We just got home from it a little earlier this evening. It was so much fun. Really, isn't the pinewood derby the highlight of the year with scouting? We think so. We just love it. Dallon and Aaron made an awesome car this year. This was Dallon's 3rd pinewood derby car and they are getting better each and every year. This one was by far the best they've ever made. Dallon picked the design and color out. It rocks right? Well, they raced by dens tonight. He raced the bear scouts and took 2nd place!!! Yay for second! He's never placed before. Look out for next year... he's shooting for first.

This next car belongs to little brother. Dawson wanted so badly to be able to make a pinewood derby car. He asked several times. Due to the fact that we only had two weekends to make Dallon's we didn't see any way to do two cars. So we told Dawson that he could make a derby car when he turns 8 and joins scouts. We thought that would give him something to look forward to. Well, he got resourceful. He found a piece of wood that was a cut off of Dallons and started working on it all on his own. One saturday afternoon I found him sanding away in the garage. He told me what he was doing... building his own pinewood derby car. He was so excited. Since it didn't already have the slots cut into the bottom for the wheels, he had used a nail to poke a straight line of holes in the bottom. Where the wheels would go. He had one line of holes for each wheel too. He sanded it so smooth, and then painted it with left over paint from Dallon's car. Honestly, no help, until the very end. When it came time to put tires on Dallon's car Dawson was really wishing he had wheels. But Dallon's kit only came with one set. Well, he'd put so much time and effort into this car that I was able to talk Aaron into making a trip to the store just to buy Dawson some wheels. Once the #6 was placed on the front (for his age) it was finally complete. He was so proud. I wanted to take some pictures to capture all his hard work. He took it to the derby too, and when it was over he had a chance to race the big boys.

Oh my gosh, what an incredible story about the spirit of Dawson - he always wants to keep up with big brother. What a neat car he made.
As for Dallon, his car is incredible, and to come in second. What an honor!! Tell them both how proud I am of them.
Thanks Jaimie for keeping us posted on their stories and adventures. Tell Aaron also how proud I am of him - he is a great Dad.
LOVE this post!!!! Congrats to Dallon!!!
And wow! I can't believe the hard work a 6 year old would go through for that!
You have 2 incredible boys!
Wahoo Dallon!!! His car looks super cool and fast! (I have never been to a Pinewood Derby before though!) And Dawson's car is seriously so adorable! I can't believe he made it all by himself. I am glad you got him some wheels!!!
Those are awesome cars! Pinewood derby time was always my favorite, too. Can't wait to see next year's car.
That story of Dawson is just too cute.
