You are my sunshine...

You are my sunshine
my only sunshine.
You make me happy
when sky's are grey.
You'll never know dear
how much I love you.
Please don't take my sunshine away!

This is a song I always sing to Easton. I love this song. I remember when I was a little girl being in my grandma Wall's living room and she had several of her friends over. They would get together and play music... all these cute little old ladies. They all had their ukalele's and were singing this song together, You Are My Sunshine. To this day, that song makes me think of her. I've always sung it to my boys. Last night when Easton climbed on my lap to snuggle I started to sing this song to him. To my surprise, he joined in... and he knew the whole song. He sang it right along with me. It was so sweet. We sang it several times together... belting it out. I love you, my sunshine!

And because a post just isn't a post without a picture...
I'll leave you with these.

why do my kids like medicine so much???

Easton gave us a scare last week. At 10 pm on wednesday night I walked into the kitchen to see Easton with a bottle of perscription drugs up to his mouth, head tipped back, emptying them all into his mouth. I ran over and used my finger to get 4 of them out... not totally sure how many he may have already swallowed. They were perscription cough medicine that Dallon was given last week. Small (bb sized) clear balls of med. They are adult dose since Dallon weighs 100 lbs. One pill is all you take for 12 hours - so they are very powerful. I called poison control and the man on the phone there totally freaked me out. When I told him what it was that had been taken and gave him Easton's age he told me to get off the phone and call 911 immediately and have an ambulance come. I told him I live close and I'll drive him right now. I wanted to ask a few questions and tried and he yelled at me - said that there was no time to talk - and that my child was probably going to have a seizure any minute and I needed an ambulance. It was stressful. I did drive him - and that was crazy - worrying if he is seizing in the back seat where I can't see him. He didn't though. Poison control notified the hospital I guess (that I was coming) because they were ready for me and were taking it seriously. Still totally expecting seizure. It was just me and Easton at hospital. I left Aaron home with boys sleeping. Doctor said those meds are toxic, and that it was so good I brought him in. After being at the hospital for 4 hours we were released. I'm happy to say that there was no seizure the whole time... which means that he didn't take much if any at all. It was a lot of stress and panic - it's the worst when your child takes something like that and you don't know how much they took. Why do my kids like medicine so much??? This isn't my first child to make an emergency trip to the ER with. Years ago, when Dallon was 3... he chewed his way thru the plastic of 4 adult strength cold medicine tablets. He spend 12 hours at the hospital, they gave him charcoal, watched him closely, and it scared us to death then too. We are ok. Easton is just fine. I learned a big lesson about keeping all drugs very high and out of reach... because somehow he got thru the child locked perscription container. I am so glad my baby is ok. I am so thankful I walked into the kitchen at just that moment to witness him downing the rest of the bottle of cough meds... If I hadn't he surely would have had a seizure and things would have been much more scary. I love this little guy and I'm glad he is ok.

Arrow Of Light

Dallon earned his Arrow of Light for cub scouting right before his 11th birthday! It was lots of work for him there at the end, but he had made up his mind that he wanted that sweet arrow. He'd seen a friend of his in scouting receive "the arrow" and wanted one real bad. Both his Dad and I are all so proud of him for his hard work and determination. He was awarded the Arrow of Light on April 13th. The arrow is so stinkin' cool... I can see why he wanted one. There wasn't anyway to display it though. I wanted for him to be able to display it in his room... so this is what I came up with. I'm so happy with how it turned out and am glad for Dallon to have a neat way to display his accomplishment!

writtten on my note to Dallon...

Dear Dallon,
I am so proud of you for working so hard in scouting to earn your Arrow of Light. The highest award any cub scout can earn. You put a lot of effort and time into this over the past few years and you have accomplished something really great! You can do anything you set your mind to Dallon! If you set goals, and work hard, you can make all of your dreams come true! Believe in yourself! And always remember... I believe in you. I am proud of you, and I love you!!!
With love, Mom

Star Student letter

(The following letter was written for Dawson's teacher to read aloud to the class during his week of being the star student).

Dawson Joseph Haley has been a blessing to the Haley family since he was born on January 27th, 2003. He is the middle of three Haley boys. Although he is a lot like his older and younger brother, he is very special and unique.

One of the things that I like most about Dawson is how much he cares for other people; especially for his family members. He's always the first one to give a hug to his mom and I or to make special hand written cards or other special gifts to brighten our day. A couple of weeks ago when I had a big test, Dawson made a good luck card and along with a "go dad" heart that he put inside my car as a surprise. It was just what I needed to pass the big test!

Dawson is creative and talented when it comes to inventing things around the house to help out. A couple of days ago, he invented a new candy dispenser for the kitchen. He also made a new hat that holds cereal in the top in case you ever get hungry while wearing the hat.

He is also very smart and a great reader! When he started this year, he was just learning, but has worked very hard with the help of his teacher Ms. Jackson, and can now read several books a day. In fact he even reads to his little brother!

Dawson is also a very talented athlete. Anytime he tries out a new sport, he does very well with it. Right now he's playing baseball for the Astros at the YMCA. He's good at getting ground balls and a really good hitter. In his last game he had two hits and caught two ground balls. He's also played football and basketball and has been on the swim team. Last year Dawson tried BMX bike racing. At only six years old, he could go all the way around the big dirt track, including all of the jumps! And he could do it while going really fast! He did great his first year getting first, second and third place trophies.

He loves to spend time outside in our backyard; shooting hoops on our basketball court, jumping on the trampoline or kicking the soccer ball or throwing a baseball around with his brother Dallon.

Our house just wouldn't be the same without Dawson. He's a special person that is caring towards others and always making us laugh with his good sense of humor. He is a good example to his family on how to be a hard worker. I'm glad that Dawson has been in your class with you this year so that you can see how neat he is. Thank you for helping make this a special week for him as the "star student".

Happy Birthday Dallon!

On wednesday, april 14th, we celebrated Dallon's 11th birthday. We spent the evening at home. Presents, handmade cards, his favorite dinner that I make... calzones, and we watched a Harry Potter movie. I did his chores for him after school as a little present. He loved that and I got a big hug out of it. I also gave him a free pass for no piano practice for the day... huge hit! It was such a nice night as a family.

Today we had a party with his friends at Laser Quest. Laser Tag is as good as it gets for boys this age. They all love it! Dallon had 5 friends join us for some fun. They played 2 games of laser tag and then we had fun with cake and presents. Dallon is so into basketball right now. So, we went with basketball everything and he thought that was pretty cool.

Here they are looking at their score sheets after game one... all sweaty and pumped up about all the fun... talking smack about the game they are about to play. Dallon did take 2nd out of 25 players... so he did well.

34 and counting...

We celebrated Aaron's birthday at home relaxing after the reading restaurant. He had a great ice cream cake that Dawson picked out for him, and Dallon wrapped all his presents... cards, cards, and more cards. He spent his night opening them with the boys. For those of you who don't know this... he is a huge card collector! Happy Birthday to you Aaron!

Reading Restaurant

Dawson invited Aaron and I to a reading restaurant in his classroom one evening last week. When we arrived at the school Dawson entered the classroom, while we waited in the hall for a table. When a table was available, our server Dawson, came out to greet us... "Welcome to Ms. Jackson's Flower Power Cafe" he said. "Your table is ready... please follow me". He showed us to our table which was covered in a beautiful table cloth with pretty flowers. Then he handed us our menu which was colored beautifully. On the menu there were several choices for us to choose from. There were books for appetizers, main courses, and desserts too. We could choose which book we'd like to have and Dawson would then read it to us. It was so clever and so cute. We really enjoyed hearing him read to us at the reading restaurant.

He had made this fun book all about himself to show his parents too. It's amazing. I loved it. There are several pics of some of his writings inside. I felt so lucky to have it dedicated to me.

He was very proud to show us that he had made a power point presentation to show us. He was feeling pretty cool that he could work the computer all by himself.

It was such a wonderful evening. I left hand in hand with Dawson. I love that he still loves to hold my hand. My heart was so full. I am proud of him. And it's so fun to get to share in his life with him.
